2009 FAIR RESULTS

“BUDDY” CLAIMS BIG BOAR TITLE AT IOWA STATE FAIR

“Buddy,” a crossbred boar outweighed the competition to win the Biggest Boar crown at the 2009 Iowa State Fair, Thursday.

The four and a half year-old tipped the scale at 1,117 pounds. He is owned by Gary and Cindy Kingsbury of Ames.

“Okie-Dokie,” a five year old York-Duroc cross exhibited by Gene Stoltzfus of North English, took second place at 1,071 pounds.

Third place went to Urlacher, a crossbred shown by Chad Lacoste of Charles City. Urlacher weighed 1,067 pounds. The final spot was claimed by Thunder, a purebred Duroc shown by Mike Cormaney of Webster City. Thunder totaled 1042 pounds.

The State Fair record of 1,259 pounds was set last year.

“Buddy” as well as the Super Bull and Big Ram can be found at the Iowa State Fair in the swine, cattle and sheep barns respectively through August 23.

“State Fair Time” runs through August 23. The Fairgrounds are located at East 30th and East University Avenue, just 10 minutes east of downtown Des Moines, and are open 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. each day of the Fair. Exhibit hours may vary.
