Grand Champion 4-H Market Steer
Nolan Ferguson — New Sharon; Parents: Kent and Renee Ferguson
Nolan Ferguson of New Sharon exhibited the Grand Champion 4-H Market Steer. Nolan is 16 and will be a junior this fall at North Mahaska High School. He’s active in football, baseball, FFA and 4-H. He’s a member of the Adams Champs 4-H Club where he focuses his attention on beef projects. When he’s not playing sports or in school, you can most likely find Nolan clipping cattle.
Reserve Grand Champion 4-H Market Steer
Keaton Lundquist — Prescott; Parents: Bob and Julie Russell & David and Lynn Lundquist
This 1,320-lb steer is your Reserve Champion 4-H Market Steer, exhibited by Keaton Lundquist of Prescott. Keaton is a member of the Douglas Boosters 4-H Club and participates in several projects, including conduct of meetings and livestock judging. He’ll be a sophomore this fall at Orient-Macksburg High School and is active in football, track, baseball and student council. In his free time, Keaton enjoys hunting.
Grand Champion 4-H Market Heifer Mandy Kohlhaas — LuVerne; Parents: Allan and Shelly Kohlhaas
In her first year exhibiting cattle, Mandy Kohlhaas of LuVerne took home the Grand Champion 4-H Market Heifer title with her 1,270-lb heifer. Mandy is 16 and will be a junior this fall at Bishop Garrigan High School in Algona. Mandy plays basketball, golf, volleyball and softball and is a member of the Riverdale Rustlers 4-H club. She’s also active in her church and Christian leadership activities.
Reserve Grand Champion 4-H Market Heifer Jordan Hullinger — Davis City; Troy and Joey Hullinger
Jordan Hullinger of Davis City exhibited the Reserve Champion 4-H Market Heifer. This 13-year-old is a member of the Decatur County Stars 4-H Club and in addition to her cattle projects, is active in photography, foods and fashion projects. She’ll be an eighth grader this fall at Central Decatur and participates in volleyball, basketball, softball, track and chorus. Jordan’s hobbies include painting, art, cooking and fashion design.
Grand Champion FFA Market Hog
Chelsea Keninger — Ackley; Parents: Kent and Audrea Keninger
15-year-old Chelsea Keninger of Ackley captured the Grand Champion FFA Market Hog honor. This is her first year exhibiting at the Iowa State Fair. Chelsea will be a sophomore this fall at AGWSR High School where she competes in cross-country, track and field, and basketball. As a member of the AGWSR FFA, she participates in livestock and soil judging, conduct of meetings and swine and
beef production.
Reserve Grand Champion FFA Market Hog
Cody Schminke — Van Horne; Parents: Al and Kandy Schminke
The Reserve Champion 4-H Market Hog is a 280-lb barrow named Junior, exhibited by Cody Schminke of Van Horne. This is Cody’s tenth year exhibiting at the Iowa State Fair. He is a member of the Benton FFA, where he serves as past president. A sophomore at Black Hawk East Campus in Kewanee, Illinois, Cody is majoring in engineering and animal science. In his spare time, he enjoys working with youth who are involved in the National Junior Swine Association.

Dan Harmsen — Rock Valley; Parents: Mike and Wanda Harmsen
Dan Harmsen, from Rock Valley, exhibited the Grand Champion 4-H Market Hog. Dan is 15 and will be a freshman this fall at Rock Valley High School where he’s active in football, wrestling, track and vocals. He’s a member of the Rolling River 4-H Club and his church youth group. Dan also works part-time at the local farmer’s elevator.

Rebecca Freeman — Ogden; Parents: John and Teri Freeman
15-year-old Rebecca Freeman of Ogden has brought home the Reserve Champion 4-H Market Hog title. This freshman at Southeast Webster–Grand High School in Burnside participates in volleyball, basketball and golf. She’s a member of the Bluff Creek Wranglers 4-H Club in Boone and her projects include beef, swine, food and nutrition, and clothing. When she’s not taking care of her swine and beef projects, you’ll most likely find her shopping, swimming, riding 4-wheelers or with her two corgi dogs.
Grand Champion FFA Market Lamb
Dani Berry — Sac City; Parents: Keith and Shelli Berry
Dani Berry has won the Grand Champion 4-H Market Lamb title with her 135-lb lamb, beating out more than 600 entries in the competition. This is the seventh time the Sac City 19-year-old has won the event. Dani will be a sophomore this fall at Iowa State University where she’s majoring in health and human performance and active in the Block & Bridle club. Dani is a member of the East Sac County FFA and is active in her church.

Ashley Graff — Osceola; Parents: Myron and Margaret Graff
Ashley Graff of Osceola captured the Reserve Champion FFA Market Lamb banner. This is Ashley’s eleventh year exhibiting at the Iowa State Fair and her fifth time in the winner’s circle. She’s a member of the Osceola Big Chief FFA chapter where she earned an American FFA degree in 2006. She’ll be a junior this fall at Iowa State University where she’s majoring in business management and marketing. Ashley works part time at Agri-Access in Johnston.
Grand Champion 4-H Market Lamb
Brenden Kuesel — Victor; Parents: Mike and Cherrie Kuesel
The Grand Champion 4-H Market Lamb is exhibited by Brenden Kuesel from Victor. Brenden will be a sophomore this fall at H.L.V. Community Schools. He’s active in football, track and field, golf and basketball — and was selected to play on the state-wide future stars basketball team. Brenden is a member of the Warren Winners 4-H Club. This is a big summer for Brenden; in addition to participating in the Sale of Champions, he turns 16 next week and is anxious to get his license and find a set of wheels.

Tanner Berry — Sac City; Parents: Keith and Shelli Berry
The Reserve Champion 4-H Market Lamb weighs 156 lbs and was home-raised by Tanner Berry of Sac City. Tanner will be a freshman this fall at Sac Community School where he participates in basketball, track, football and baseball. A member of the Jackson 4-H Club, Tanner is active in livestock judging and showing, as well as horticulture projects. He’s also active in his church and enjoys hunting
and fishing.
Grand Champion 4-H Broiler Pen
Stephen Smith — Runnells; Parents: Roger and Kyle Smith
This year’s Grand Champion 4-H Broiler Pen weighs in at 40.3 lbs and is shown by 18-year-old Stephen Smith of Runnells. Stephen will be a senior this year at Southeast Polk High School where he participates in baseball, basketball, football and FFA. Stephen is a member of the New Beginnings 4-H Club and works part time at Prairie Meadows.

Kristin Arkfeld — Earling; Parents: Brian and Mary Arkfeld
16-year-old Kristin Arkfeld, from Earling, holds the Reserve Champion 4-H Broiler Pen title. Kristin will be a junior this fall at Harlan High School where she’s active in cheerleading. A member of the Lincoln Leaders 4-H Club, Kristin’s additional projects have focused on child development and food and nutrition. She works part time at Elm Crest Retirement Community and enjoying reading, shopping, working with animals and hanging out with her friends and family.
